Helle

Heritage Craftsmanship

Every Helle knife represents authentic Norwegian tradition, handcrafted in the small village of Holmedal where only 500 people live. The company employs about 50 skilled craftsmen who use traditional materials including air-dried curly birch wood, genuine leather, and specially formulated steels. Air-drying the wood, rather than kiln-drying, creates handles that are much more stable and less prone to swelling or warping in changing conditions. The hand-stitched leather sheaths are made using time-honored traditions of local Norwegian sheath makers, treated with saddle grease for durability and functionality.

Superior Steel Technology

Helle's signature blade steel is their triple-laminated stainless steel (H3LS), developed in conjunction with Norwegian steel mills. This innovative construction features a hard core steel (59 HRC) that holds an exceptional edge, surrounded by softer 18/8 stainless steel layers that provide flexibility and corrosion resistance. Many models also feature 12C27 and 14C28N premium stainless steels, all ground with the traditional Scandinavian edge geometry that delivers razor-sharp performance straight from the box. Whether it's the robust full-tang Nord designed for demanding wilderness tasks or the elegant classic Harding with its distinctive barrel handle, each blade is engineered for specific outdoor applications.

Professional Sharpening Solutions

Helle's commitment to blade performance extends to their sharpening stones, designed specifically to maintain the razor-sharp edges their knives are known for. The small sharpening stone (320/500 grit) fits perfectly in your pocket for field maintenance, while the large stone (360/1000 grit) is ideal for kitchen or workshop use. Both stones come with handmade leather pouches and represent the same quality standards as Helle's knives. These dual-grit stones ensure you can maintain your Helle knife's performance whether you're on a multi-day wilderness expedition or preparing meals at home.

About the - Brand

Helle has been crafting exceptional knives in Holmedal, Norway since 1932, when brothers Steinar and Sigmund Helle established their company with a simple philosophy: make quality tools that look and feel good. Now in its third generation of family ownership, Helle maintains the same commitment to craftsmanship that began 92 years ago. Each knife requires up to 45 manual steps to complete, with skilled craftsmen drawing on generations of Norwegian knife-making tradition. Helle knives are built to withstand the rigors of outdoor use while serving as beautiful heirloom pieces that can be proudly passed down through generations.
