Rooted in Finnish Tradition and Innovation
Kupilka is a Finnish brand deeply rooted in tradition, with origins tracing back to 1775 when the first handmade cup was carved by Kuisma, an ancestor of the founders. The modern Kupilka brand was established in 1996 by the Kaasinen family in North Karelia, Finland, with a vision to blend ecological values with high-quality craftsmanship. The name "Kupilka" reflects the heritage of Finnish wooden tableware, combining traditional design with contemporary materials and manufacturing techniques. The company operates from Pyytivaara, Kontiolahti, where it has grown into a family-owned business committed to sustainable production and innovation in natural fibre composites.
Precision Manufacturing with Sustainable Materials
Kupilka products are crafted from Kareline® Natural Fibre Composite, a unique biomaterial developed in collaboration with the Wood Technology Centre Puugia in Joensuu, Finland. This composite consists of 50% Nordic softwood cellulose from certified Finnish forests and 50% food-grade polyolefins, resulting in a material that is both eco-friendly and durable. The production process is powered entirely by renewable energy certified by EKOenergy, making Kupilka one of the pioneers in carbon-neutral manufacturing. The company employs efficient waste management, recycling all production scraps back into the manufacturing cycle, and uses sustainable packaging made from recycled cardboard and Finnish plywood. Kupilka products are designed to last, aging gracefully while maintaining their functional qualities over time.

Exceptional Quality and Functional Design
Kupilka’s product range includes cups, plates, bowls, cutlery, knives, and firesteels, all designed to meet high standards of durability and usability. The Kareline composite material offers excellent thermal insulation, withstanding temperatures from -30°C to +100°C, and does not absorb odors or flavors. Kupilka items are dishwasher safe and develop a unique patina with use, enhancing their natural aesthetic without compromising performance. The brand is also known for its ethical use of reindeer leather cords, sourced as by-products of food production, adding a touch of Nordic authenticity. Award-winning products like the Kupilka FireSteel 8 demonstrate the brand’s commitment to combining traditional outdoor tools with modern design and functionality.
