Description
The C17P puts a short, slightly upswept blade in a round palm handle for the refining stage of a carving, when you are smoothing surfaces and bringing the form to its final shape. The 40 mm blade is 12 mm wide and 2 mm thick, 1066 high-carbon steel at 57–59 HRC with a 20° Scandi grind; the upswept edge makes slicing cuts that follow curves without tearing the grain.
The 75 mm ash handle sits in the palm with the blade projecting between the fingers for powerful, controlled push cuts. BeaverCraft sharpens its carving tools to a 20° bevel for soft woods such as basswood and recommends against using them on hardwoods, where the fine edge dulls quickly. Weight is about 52 g.
