Description
The S50X is BeaverCraft's top-of-the-line set: nine carving tools with oiled European walnut handles, packed in a cowhide leather shoulder bag with a strop and three polishing compounds. It covers the whole range of hand carving: a large sloyd knife for roughing out, a mid-size sloyd and a chip carving knife, two detail knives, two spoon hook knives (right- and left-cutting), a gouge and a small drawknife.
All blades are 1066 high-carbon steel hardened to 57–59 HRC and come sharpened to a 20° bevel. The full set weighs about 3.0 kg and the bag measures 41 x 29 x 7 cm. BeaverCraft sharpens its carving tools to a 20° bevel for soft woods such as basswood and recommends against using them on hardwoods, where the fine edge dulls quickly.
