Description

The BeaverCraft AX5 Hewing Axe takes its cues from Scandinavian broad axes: a wide, deeply curved bit on a long, straight handle. The blade sweeps from toe to heel to give a roughly 15 cm (6 in) cutting edge, which is what lets a hewing axe take long, flat, controlled slices when squaring a log or flattening a face for timber framing, bench building, or log furniture.
The head is hand-forged from 1066 high-carbon steel and hardened to 56–58 HRC. A convex grind supports the edge for heavy work, and despite the large bit the axe is designed to stay agile rather than bulky. Beyond hewing, that reach and edge length make it effective for limbing, bucking, and splitting kindling at camp.
The straight ash handle, about 77 cm (30 in) long, is finished with linseed oil and wax and offers a comfortable grip for extended sessions. A cowhide leather sheath protects the blade in storage and transit.
