FUGAKU Folding Kataba Super Hard Saw
Compact folding kataba saw with a tough 0.6 mm blade and short spine, ideal for deep, fast crosscuts in sheet goods and structural timber, and sized to live permanently in your toolbox.
The FUGAKU Kataba Super Hard (Gyokucho 112) is a folding Japanese pull saw built for general carpentry, framing, and shop work where you need deep, straight cuts in modern wood materials. Its 240 mm kataba blade is backless apart from a short reinforced metal spine near the handle, giving you stiffness and guidance without limiting cutting depth. At 0.6 mm thick with a 0.93 mm kerf and aggressive crosscut tooth pattern, it cuts quickly yet leaves a clean finish in plywood, OSB, MDF, and solid timber.
The saw folds into its straight beech handle, shrinking to a compact length that fits easily in a toolbox or tool belt and protects the teeth during transport. A simple locking mechanism holds the blade firmly open so it feels secure under load, similar to a small panel saw but with the low‑effort control of a Japanese pull stroke. The impulse‑hardened, surface‑treated blade offers long‑lasting sharpness and corrosion resistance, and is replaceable when eventually worn.
- Robust kataba blade for deep cuts: 240 mm backless blade with short spine allows deep cuts in boards, panels, and thick stock without the spine bottoming out.
- Thick, tough plate: 0.6 mm blade with roughly 0.93 mm cutting width gives extra stiffness and durability for construction lumber and engineered panels.
- Fast crosscut tooth pattern: 1.9 mm tooth pitch with crosscut geometry and set teeth for rapid cutting across the grain while still leaving a neat surface.
- Compact folding design: Folds into the handle for safe storage and transport, so it can live in a toolbox or bag without risking damaged teeth.
- Straight beech wood handle: Wooden handle with a straight profile offers a familiar, secure grip and a bit more mass than standard Japanese saw handles.
- Replaceable blade system: Uses a replaceable “Super Hard” blade (S112), secured with screws for straightforward blade changes when it eventually dulls.
- Suited to modern materials: Designed for laminated wood, general timber, composite panel, MDF, particleboard (OSB), and plywood, making it a go‑to site and shop saw.
