Nying Knife
The Helle Nying is an iconic Scandinavian outdoor knife, renowned for its award-winning stubby design, generous handle, and exceptional control in carving and woodwork. With over one million sold since 1977, it remains a beloved, functional companion for campers and craftspeople.
Designed by Tor Indergaard, the Nying’s compact blade and stout curly birch handle were revolutionary at launch, distilling the essence of Scandinavian knifemaking into a tool that excels at fine woodwork and practical outdoor tasks. Its triple laminated stainless steel blade is hair-popping sharp straight out of the sheath, and a subtle finger guard keeps the grip secure even when working close to the blade. The handle, generously proportioned and perfectly shaped for comfort, ensures fatigue-free use during long carving sessions by the campfire. The genuine leather sheath features a flame motif cutout and a secure keeper strap and suspension thong, making it practical for belt or neck carry in traditional Norwegian style. The Nying has received design acclaim, yet is prized most by the many who count it as their favorite field and carving knife.
